Kyle J. Betit is a professional genealogist, lecturer and author residing
in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born in Texas, was raised in Juneau, Alaska,
and has resided in Salt Lake City since 1987. He is a descendant of Irish,
Scottish, English, French, and German immigrants who came to North America.
His ancestors include Irish Catholics from the Ards Peninsula of County
Down who emigrated to Pennsylvania and Irish Protestants from County Laois
(Queens County) who emigrated to Ontario, Canada.
Editing and Publishing
With Dwight Radford, Kyle was co-editor of the popular genealogical journal
The Irish At Home and Abroad (1993-1999). The journal published ground-breaking
articles on topics such as Irish Masonic records, place name sources, freeholders’
records, and records of Irish Catholic priests and religious. Kyle and Dwight
co-authored
A Genealogist's Guide to Discovering Your Irish Ancestors, published
in 2001. This book devotes half its content to records of the Irish abroad
and half to records generated in Ireland. Kyle and Dwight also co-authored
a chapter for the 2003 publication
The Family Tree Guide Book to Europe.
Kyle specializes in Irish and immigration research. Kyle makes frequent
trips to Ireland and Europe and throughout the United States and Canada
to conduct research for clients and give lectures. He is Research Director
of the genealogy research firm
ProGenealogists,
Inc., in Salt Lake City. He operates the Irish Research Pages of
Ireland.ProGenealogists.com.

Kyle is an instructor in the American Research Department of the Internet
genealogy courses offered by the University of Toronto and the
National Institute
of Genealogical Studies. His courses include American Church Records,
American Immigration Research, and American Land Records. He also leads
interactive chat sessions with students studying in the Irish Research Department,
NIGS.
Genetics
Kyle studied biology and chemistry at Dartmouth College and holds a bachelor
of science degree in biology from the University of Utah (minors, chemistry
and philosophy). His science interests are in molecular biology, biochemistry,
and genetics. He is involved in the application of genealogy research to
medical genetics studies at the Universities of Utah and Vermont. He also
lectures on topics related to "genealogy and genetics."
