Gunman overpowered by drinkers A
GUNMAN’S attempted shoot-ing backfired after he rushed into a Limerick
bar only to be disarmed and beaten up by customers.
The gunman was in a stable condition in hospital after being treated for
serious injuries.
A number of people at Quilty’s Bistro Lounge in Thomondgate rounded
on the gunman after he burst in looking for a particular regular.
One witness said: “Some locals disarmed him and gave him a bit of
a trimming.”
Gardaí later recovered the gun at the scene.
The intended target was in the bar wearing a bullet-proof vest having
been shot at a number of times in the past few months.
It is believed that when the would-be shooter burst into the bar he demanded
people step aside as he wanted to get at his target.
But before he knew it he was on the floor after customers challenged him.
He was arrested at the scene but rushed to hospital immediately when the
seriousness of his injuries became apparent.
One customer was treated for shock.
Gardaí were hoping to speak to the gunman this week.
Last December staff at Quilty’s Bistro Lounge were threatened by
a gunman after they asked a person to leave the premises.
