Irish Dancing - Kenny Class Feis, Birmingham
The Kenny Academy of Irish Dancing was created in Birmingham 11 years ago by Michael Kenny. Jean Davies another local Irish Dance teacher merged her school with Michael’s three years later.
Since the merger the pair have worked hard to become one of the leading schools in an area blessed with talented dance schools. Recent successes include two gold medals at the 2001 world championships for the figure and céilí teams. World champion Thomas Duerin also added the under-11 British national title to an ever-increasing list of achievements in July.
Jean’s son Anthony usually plays and records all the music along with his friend Darren. Her sons Thomas and Joseph are both dancers. Joseph came third in this year’s World Championships.
Irish dancing has changed immensely since Michael formed the academy in 1992 but the two partners ensure their dancers enjoy themselves whilst practicing.
The academy holds classes at the Birmingham Irish Club three times a week as well as classes in the Birmingham suburbs of Rednall, Shirley and Chelmsley Wood.
