| Scholars and Scribes - An Irish Heritage
In the Middle Ages, scholars and scribes compiled the great manuscript books
which are treasure troves of Gaelic culture. These “one-volume libraries”
were usually commissioned by wealthy lords, both Gaelic and Norman-Irish.
They largely consist of copies of earlier texts on a wide range of subjects.
