| Daily Mail Enters Fray in Battle for Irish Readers
Last week Ireland exited the World Cup and a new British-owned newspaper
appeared on the streets of Dublin. The two would appear to be unrelated,
but bear with us.
The last three games of Brian Kerr’s ill-fated tenure as Ireland manager
were characterised by a poisonous atmosphere between the fourth estate and
the players and management that proved to be a costly distraction with so
much at stake.
Much of the hostility was generated by a picture taken of Robbie Keane
exiting a nightclub at 4am just five days before the game against France.
The story was broken by Ireland on Sunday, a relative newcomer to the
Irish market and the Irish equivalent of The Mail on Sunday.
