| Permit Renewals By Debbie McGoldrick
“I married my American citizen husband close to three years ago. I
am still waiting for a green card interview. I have a work permit that I’ve
already renewed once, but do I have to still keep doing this, even though
the delay in getting my green card isn’t my fault?”
Employment authorization documents do have to be renewed until such time
as your case is finally processed, or you choose to stop working.
Even though the delay in obtaining your green card is undoubtedly down
to bureaucratic mishaps at USCIS, you are still responsible for keeping
your work permit current. It’s an inconvenience for sure, not to mention
costly — paperwork costs $175 — but it’s the law.
