| Filing Taxes
“I am a naturalized U.S. citizen, having lived and worked in New York
for the last 20 years. In July I will be moving to Mexico for a year or
two, and then I will be moving permanently home to Northern Ireland. Do
I have to continue to file taxes with the U.S. government for the rest of
my life? How do I do this? (I don’t imagine there are any tax attorneys
in Mexico or Ireland who know how to do this.)
“What about the fact that I will be paying taxes to the Mexican or
British government? Upon my retirement, still a good 20 years away, will
my Social Security benefits be affected if I just stop filing taxes with
the U.S. government?”
