| Divorce in Ireland
“I am an American citizen. I married an Irishman in New Jersey in
1993. He was illegal at the time, but he received his green card through
me and eventually, his U.S. citizenship. We moved to Ireland in 2000. I
am very unhappy here, and my husband and I are separated. We have not seen
an Irish lawyer; it’s more or less unofficial at this stage. Will an Irish
divorce be recognized in the U.S.? And will my husband lose his American
citizenship? I wouldn’t want that to happen, as we have a son who will eventually
return home with me.”
