Challenging Citizenship

“I have held Irish citizenship and a passport for several years through my grandparents. I know my wife is eligible for Irish citizenship, but I would like it for my children (ages 17 and 22) as well. The Irish Consulate in New York told me this is not possible, as they were born before I established my citizenship through the foreign births registration (FBR) process. The logic escapes me here, but I realize governments, legislation and bureaucracies are what they are. Is there anything I can do to legally challenge this?”
