Spouse Passport
“I HAVE two children born in New York. My husband is from Ireland.
We just received their Irish passports. I would also like one, but I understand
I cannot get one. I am from the U.S. and have no Irish link but my husband.
It doesn’t make sense that my children can get passports, but I can’t.
Is it true that you have to live in Ireland to get a passport through marriage?”

Estate Tax Issue
“COULD you explain, other than the right to vote, the benefits of
U.S. citizenship? My husband and I have been married for 17 years. He’s
had a green card for almost 15, but does not want to become an American
citizen. It’s really because he’s lazy and feels everything
is fine as it is. Is it true that there are issues with regard to wills
and estates if you are a green card holder, such as having to pay more tax?
This might get him to move on his citizenship application.”

Frequent Travel
“MY brother has been traveling back and forth to the U.S. with a visa
waiver, and always leaves before his 90 day authorized stay is up. He has
made several trips to the U.S. in the past three years doing this, without
problem. Is this normal? He would like to set up a small business here,
but I have told him that someday he could run into problems with immigration.”

Old Green Card
“I HAVE resided in the U.S. since January 30, 1937. I have not become
an American citizen. I plan on going to Ireland in July and wish to know
if I can travel freely on my original alien card which I have. I would
like to know if any new rules are in place since then that may affect

Changing Address
“I HAVE a green card for the past 10 years. I do not want to become
a U.S. citizen as I don’t feel the need, and I will probably move
back to Ireland someday. I have heard that people who have green cards have
to report their address to U.S. immigration periodically. Is this true?
