Dual Citizenship
“I am currently going through the green card process and have maintained that I will not be going so far as to get U.S. citizenship as I want my children (God willing) to have both Irish and American citizens as parents so they have more options as far as where they want to live and work around the globe..." more...

Spouse Passport
“I HAVE two children born in New York. My husband is from Ireland. We just received their Irish passports. I would also like one, but I understand I cannot get one. I am from the U.S. and have no Irish link but my husband. It doesn’t make sense that my children can get passports, but I can’t. Is it true that you have to live in Ireland to get a passport through marriage?” more...

Relief Via Registry

Passport Processing
NOW that American citizens need to use a passport to re-enter the country by air from Canada and Mexico prior to January 23, a government issued photo ID would have sufficed there’s been a knock on effect on the time it takes to obtain a U.S. passport.   more...

Fraud Warning
MOST of us know spam mail when we see it, but there’s one that’s been making the rounds lately that’s very obviously junk, but gives a tempting offer of “instant” U.S. citizenship. All you have to do is click!  more...

Estate Tax Issue
“COULD you explain, other than the right to vote, the benefits of U.S. citizenship? My husband and I have been married for 17 years. He’s had a green card for almost 15, but does not want to become an American citizen. It’s really because he’s lazy and feels everything is fine as it is. Is it true that there are issues with regard to wills and estates if you are a green card holder, such as having to pay more tax? This might get him to move on his citizenship application.”   more...

Frequent Travel
“MY brother has been traveling back and forth to the U.S. with a visa waiver, and always leaves before his 90 day authorized stay is up. He has made several trips to the U.S. in the past three years doing this, without problem. Is this normal? He would like to set up a small business here, but I have told him that someday he could run into problems with immigration.” more...

Old, Old Green Card
“I HAVE resided in the U.S. since January 30, 1937. I have not become an American citizen. I plan on going to Ireland in July and wish to know if I can travel freely on my original alien card which I have. I would like to know if any new rules are in place since then that may affect my travel plans. I am in possession of a current Irish passport.”.  more...

Making the Move
“I WAS born in the U.S., love my Irish heritage and now have dual citizenship. I am in graduate school in New York and will be finished in a year. I would then like to live in Ireland. Would my degree from the City University of New York (CUNY) be worth anything in Ireland?" more...

Changing Address
“I HAVE a green card for the past 10 years. I do not want to become a U.S. citizen as I don’t feel the need, and I will probably move back to Ireland someday. I have heard that people who have green cards have to report their address to U.S. immigration periodically. Is this true? I have never done so. Could I be in trouble?”  more...
