Trad Concert in Manhattan

BLARNEY Star Produc-tions and Glucksman Ireland House at New York University launch a new monthly series of Irish traditional music concerts with a performance by fiddler Liz Carroll and guitarist/singer John Doyle. The concert will take place at the Washington Square United Methodist Church, 135 West Fourth Street between Sixth Avenue and MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village. Showtime is 9:00, admission a $15 donation.

Chicago fiddler Liz Carroll is one of the most respected and highly honored musicians in the world of Irish traditional music. One of a handful of American-born All-Ireland fiddle champions, Liz is also a recipient of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Heritage Award, this country’s highest honor for a folk artist. Guitarist and singer John Doyle is a Dubliner who made his name as a founding member of the group Solas. His powerful acoustic sound has also been heard with the Eileen Ivers Band, fiddle legend Tommy Peoples and bluegrass great Tim O’Brien’s band. The next concert in the Blarney Star/Ireland House series will take place on Friday, February 6, also at Washington Square United Methodist Church, and will feature Galway flute great Mike Rafferty and friends.
