Enya fans might find something special in their stocking if they play their cards right this holiday season. Ireland’s most successful New Age chanteuse has teamed up with NBC and Target to release Sounds of the Season: The Enya Collection. The disc is an EP of six songs, a mixture of older chestnuts and new treats that are sure to put you in the tree trimming mood.

“Amid the Falling Snow,” a gorgeous track that went virtually unnoticed on her less than spectacular Amarantine CD of last year, is repackaged amidst these wintry tunes and given a proper airing as a result.

“We Wish You a Merry Christmas” gets the Enya treatment here; harpsichords and multilayered vocals add a regal air to this holiday staple. “Adeste Fideles” works better in Enya’s tried and true ethereal formula; the track is slowed down as the singer hangs on every word.

“Christmas Secrets,” a new song, is awash in New Age prose about falling snow and starry nights. I’ll have to check with my meteorologist, but I’m not sure you can have both of those things happening in the sky at once!

“The Magic of the Night” has a majestic harpsichord riff galloping through it, and it is an instant Christmas classic!

Of course, no Enya Christmas collection would be complete without the Gaelic read of “Silent Night,” a song that Enya single-handedly reinvented and made her own. As if an Enya Christmas CD wasn’t enticement enough, the whole package can be yours for under $10.
