Bride of Shane

By Debbie McGoldrick

GRIZZLED rocker Shane MacGowan will soon take a missus, and she appears to be his match in every wild way.

Victoria Mary Clarke, a writer, has known Shane since she was a teenager, and after all those up and down years together, they’re planning a wedding this summer. Clarke launched her book called Angel in Disguise? last week at a Dublin party a cocktail one, of course and the bride-to-be looked, well, rather odd in a black plastic mini dress and over the top makeup.

How did Pogues frontman Shane manage to pop the question? He’s been asking and asking for some time now, Victoria said during an expletive laden interview on Irish radio last week. Last Christmas, she finally capitulated.

“Why don’t we get married, ah go on marry me, ah come on for f**** sake marry me,” was the romantic way her groom put it, according to Victoria, who also admitted on live radio that she was “still p****d” from her launch party the night before. Sweet.

Who will consent to marry this pair? If the future Mrs. Mac has her way it’ll be Sinead O’Connor, who, you’ll remember, was ordained a “priest” in one of her prior incarnations.
