New Trainer, Fight for Moore
July 16, 2008
By Declan O’Kelly
LIGHT middleweight James Moore (15-1, 10 KOs) will be back in action on August 6 on a Broadway Boxing Card at B.B. King’s Blues Club in Times Square.
The Wicklow native will take on Lloyd Christian Joseph, 12-6-3 (5 KOs) in an eight round contest. In his corner will be new trainer Lennox Blackmore. A former professional who challenged Aaron Pryror for the world junior welterweight title in 1981, Blackmore has trained, among others, Vivian Harris and Wayne Braithwaite.
Moore, just off his first defeat as a professional on June 4 against Gabriel Rosado, is philosophical about the setback.
“I look at the loss to Rosado as a minor bump in the road. I just need to put that loss aside by keeping myself busy and getting back the momentum I had going into that fight. Joseph is a tough guy who will come to fight. That’s exactly the type of fight I’m looking for right now,” Moore said.
Joseph is a 35-year-old veteran, originally from the Virgin Islands but now based in Brooklyn. He has beaten former world champion Keith Mullings and gone the full term with contenders Joshua Clottey and Godfrey Nyakana. His last fight was in October 2004 when he lost to Marcos Primera by TKO in round six.
Blackmore is confident about his new charge. “James is all business in training, and in the ring,” he said. “He is a very good listener and a quick learner. He doesn’t take any shortcuts and is ready to put the past behind him and get back where he belongs, on the road to a title.”
For the 30-year-old Moore, this fight is all about getting on with his career. “I’m just happy to get back in the ring, and back on track,” he said.
