JRR Tolkien - the Irish Connection
The imagination of author JRR Tolkien who created the mystical Middle
Earth of the Lord of the Rings was first nurtured in the Irish community
in the Midlands. Tolkien grew up in the Sarehole, Moseley, Kings Heath
and Ladywood areas of Birmingham and after the age of 12, when his mother
died, Father Francis Xavier Morgan of the Catholic Oratory became guardian
to him and his brother Hilary.
