Many people of Irish descent in the USA and Canada have great difficulty in finding the places of origin in Ireland of their ancestors. The reason for this situation is that the documents associated with their Irish immigrant ancestors list ‘Ireland’ or, if they are particularly lucky the name of an Irish county, as the place of origin.
