The Irish Heritage Cookbook - Margaret Johnson (Nominated for "Best Cookbook on National Cuisine" in the
1999 Versailles World Cookbook Fair Awards
The Irish Heritage Cookbook contains more than
200 traditional and more innovative recipes that reflect the
food renaissance going on in Ireland. Johnson, a high school
on Long Island, who often travels to Ireland, has talked to
Irish chefs, inn owners, cheesemakers and other producers to
gather their recipes. She also throws in a few standards from
her Irish American mother and Irish grandmother. It's a collection
that appeals, from the whimsy of 'monkfish on a causeway of
leeks with mussel sauce' to the surprise of Cheddar, bacon and
oatmeal souffl. The book is interspersed with short stories
about products, such as flavorful Irish honey or Mileens, an
Irish farmhouse cheese from Country Cork. The resource section
in the back of the book tells where to order Irish products
in the states. (Review by the Chicago Tribune)
This wonderful cook-book
offers imaginative recipes that combine the best of Irish spirits
and brews with the latest Irish cuisine. Recipes such as Guinness
Basted Roast Lamb. Grilled Steaks with Bushmills Sauce, Fresh Salad
with Raspberry Mead Vinaigrette, and Mocha Mist Mousse are certain
to add a new dimension to dining at home.

Simply Delicious Family Food - Darina Allen
All of my happiest childhood
memories are tied up with food, writes Darina Allen, the smell
of crusty bread baking in the oven or maybe a stew bubbling on
the side of the stove. For me the most important food is that
which warms and nourishes and brings the family together. So
here is Darina, sharing the secrets of her own kitchen in a book
that will take pride of place on every cook's shelf. Every one
of these recipes will ring bells of fond recognition in homes
everywhere. Simple and nourishing soups. Wonderful dishes with
poultry, meat and fish. Glorious ways with vegetables and
potatoes. Puddings only as mother could make them. Pancakes,
home-made bread, cakes and biscuits. Cheeses and jams, and all
presented with the great good sense and enthusiasm for which
Darina Allen is famous. If the kitchen is the heart of the home,
here is the heart of every kitchen.
Delicious food is the dream
of every cook. Here is a book that can help make that dream come
true. Darina Allen's enthusiasm for cooking is already well-known
from her television series Simply Delicious. Published here are
all her programme recipes together with additional ones that complement
those demonstrated. Passionately proud of the superb quality of
Irish raw ingredients, Darina Allen shows how to use them to make
dishes that are truly outstanding, simple to make and not necessarily
expensive. She insists on the importance of shopping critically
and never accepting second best. She also believes in simplicity
and all her recipes use straightforward techniques with readily
available ingredients. She herself loves to cook, and more than
anything else she wants to take the mystique out of cooking, so
that everyone will know how easy it is to cook Simply Delicious
dishes! Simply Delicious is the essential companion for every cook
who wants to work magic in the kitchen.
